One of the first acts of the original Compton & Shawford Parish Council was to build the Parish Hall and we held two weeks of <a href="/centen/program.htm">activities and exhibitions</a> to mark the event.</p> <p>Why not try Tom Threlfall's <a href="/serendip.htm">Serendipity Trail</a> which gives you some fascinating details of the parish's history as well showing you around present day Compton & Shawford? </p> <p>Maybe you are wondering where Compton & Shawford is? <br> We are just south of the historic city of <a href="http://www.hursley.ibm.com/HampshireMaps/Winchester.html">Winchester</a>, ancient capital of England. </p> <p><a href="http://www.winchester.gov.uk/">Winchester</a> is the seat of <a href="http://www.hants.gov.uk/hcc/index.html">Hampshire County Council</a> who are kindly providing the service that brings you these pages and whose excellent <a href="http://www.hants.gov.uk">Hantsweb</a> site contains pointers to a wealth of information about our county. </p> <p align="center">I'd like to thank <a href="http://www.hursley.ibm.com">IBM Hursley</a> who kindly hosted these pages for us before Hantsweb was operational.
