Parish Council
The information here is based on the Welcome
Pack which we hope helps newcomers to find out about our
village.
We've also taken the chance to include other useful local
information such as meeting reports which don't belong in the
Welcome Pack but which will help our parishioners keep tabs
on what's going on.
It's just over 100 years since the legislation enabling
Parish Councils in their present form, so in common with many
other parishes in England we recently celebrated our
Centenary. One of the first acts of the original Compton
& Shawford Parish Council was to build the Parish Hall
and we held two weeks of activities
and exhibitions to mark the event.
Why not try Tom Threlfall's Serendipity
Trail which gives you some fascinating details of the
parish's history as well showing you around present day
Compton & Shawford?
Maybe you are wondering where Compton & Shawford is?
We are just south of the historic city of Winchester,
ancient capital of England.
Winchester is
the seat of Hampshire
County Council who are kindly providing the service that
brings you these pages and whose excellent Hantsweb site contains
pointers to a wealth of information about our county.
I'd like to thank IBM Hursley who kindly
hosted these pages for us before Hantsweb was operational.
Here is their Hampshire
information page.
Is there any other information you'd like to see included
here? Have we made any mistakes?
We'd welcome your comments by post, phone or e-mail.
