This year was the 9th Compton V Shawford Cricket match. As usual it was a highly competitive match with people vying for places in the teams. Shawford narrowly won by two wickets, with Robert West scoring the winning runs.
Compton made 129 runs with good batting from Steve Brooks and Chris Roberts. A fine bowling performance from Southdown kept the score down. Matt Cross, a temporary resident, took three wickets including an excellent caught and bowled.
Southdown made a good start on the run chase with Peter Davies (Capt) and Finn O'Sullivan opening well and Gordon de la Mare and Matt Cross adding runs from the middle. Dean kept wicket not letting any balls past. Hope your good looks haven't been spoilt Dean, by the ball to your face.
There are many more who should have had a mention but, would you believe, I was chatting and missed a lot of the match.
If there are any cricketers out there who would like to be seen by the selectors please contact the team managers who each year struggle to make their final choice from the large numbers of applicants; if you believe that you believe anything.
Chris Roberts once again provided his barbecue and Valerie her barbecuing expertise. No, I've never been any good at lighting charcoal. Many thanks to all who provided food for the pooled meal, all who took part and all the supporters.
